Description

DescriptionThis wallet was gifted to Norman George for Christmas in 1918. The wallet was given on behalf of the Australian Young Mens Christian Association. The writing on the wallet reads: “The Aussie Wallet. Xmas wishes from Australian YMCA 1918”. Norman George enlisted in the war at the age of 18 years on the 9 October 1915. He embarked for overseas service from Sydney on the HMAT Orsova in July 1916. He served in the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) on the Western Front until he was discharged and returned to Australia on the SS Themistocles in August 1918. In 1927 Norman George’s future wife emigrated from England on this same ship.
