According to various newspaper articles published in the Queensland Times in 1975, 1979 and 1987 George College (sometimes spelled Colledge) and Richard Bland discovered a small crossing on the Brisbane River (which became known as Colleges Crossing) which they use to transport and collect supplies from and also to cross to the opposite side of the Brisbane River.
Some basic facts:
- It is located 1km upstream of the present day bridge.
- This site was where John Oxley and botanist Allan Cunningham made camp whilst exploring upstream of the Brisbane river towards the Kholo area in 1924.
- The crossing is named after a local founding farmer of the area, George College (sometimes spelled Colledge).
- The lagoon within Colleges Crossing was established in the late 1980's after sand and gravel was removed from the riverbed.
- The name 'Colledges Crossing' was officially changed to 'Colleges Crossing' in 1993.
- The recreation Reserve was opened in 1993.
