Description
DescriptionJohn and Eliza Ellen (or Helen) Whybird (nee Richards), Ipswich, 1875. Image maybe from time of John and Eliza's marriage. John (1835 - 1905) married Catherine Magee in 1862, she died in 1873. They had two sons, one of whom died in infancy. He married Eliza (1852 - 1916) on 13 May 1875 and they would have eight children. John had migrated to Australia in 1857 and worked for ‘Hassel & Hogg’. After they ceased business, he received a horse and dray in lieu of wages and started as ‘For Hire’ drayman. The actual date is unknown. This was the start of the Whybird removalist business. In 1905 John Whybird became ill and died in October 1905. His son, Henry, carried on the business. The business was sold in 1997.References (offline)(For a history of the business see Whybird, Allan: Moving on: the story of five generations of removalists-the Whybird family.
