Patrick Reedy (Ready)

Patrick and Margaret Reedy (nee McMahon) came to the Ipswich area shortly after their arrival in Australia in July 1852. Margaret was born in January 1825 in Kilmaley, County Clare in Ireland. She died on 24 October 1912 at Ripley in Upper Bundanba (now spelt Bundamba).

Baptism records for some of Patrick and Margaret's children in the 1850s showed the address for the family as Long Pocket and in 1859 as Booval. There are records in unclaimed letters of letters sent to Patrick Reedy of Bundanba in 1865 and 1867.

In 1869, Patrick leased land at Ripley, the Queensland State Archives records show that he leased and later purchased several portions including Portion 192, which he selected in July 1869 and purchased in 1875, Portion 195 was selected in July 1869 and purchased in 1880, as well as portions 9 and 10.

Daughter, Mary's birth was registered on 24 August 1853, Bridget on 24 August 1855, Sarah on 28 January 1858, Thomas on 22 August 1859, Thomas on 22 August 1859 and Patrick on 2 April 1861. Some were registered as Reedy and others as Ready. Patrick's notice of probate in 1891 noted that Patrick Reedy was sometimes called and known as Patrick Ready.

Patrick and Margaret's daughters Sarah and Margaret together with their cousin John, were the first pupils at Upper Bundamba school when it opened in 1874.

Patrick's brand PR5 was registered from at least 1872 and in 1905 that brand was transferred from his estate to his grandson Thomas James Cameron, also of Upper Bundamba, Ripley. In the 1900 electoral roll Thomas Reedy had freehold land portions 9 and 10 Upper Bundanba. The Brisbane Courier of 1 May 1913 contains an advertisement for the sale of the dairy herd of Tom Reedy of Upper Bundamba (son of Patrick). His herd was being sold after his death at the farm at Ripley on 11 April 1913. The address used by Tom and his sister Margaret in the 1903-1905 electoral rolls was Mountainview Farm and they were in the Purga Creek electoral district.
