DescriptionAudio of 14 minute interview with the Mayor where he talks about the time leading up to the flood, preparing people who hadn't experienced the 1974 flood to understand what a 19 metre flood meant. He talks about being able to give flood affected people more than he originally anticipated from the Mayor's Community Fund, which raised three million in cash and kind. He was particularly happy to give vouchers to flood affected people that could be redeemed at local businesses, helping to give the businesses a boost as well. He stated that "the city is blessed to have the Defence Forces here. It was like fighting a battle and losing the war, and all of a sudden reinforcements came and they were all in uniform." The floods occurred in January and peaked on Wednesday 12 January. More detailed information can be found in the local newspapers and media.
