DescriptionAudio of 19 minute interview with Denise who talks of her 16 days spent at the Ipswich Showgrounds Evacuation Centre as a Red Cross volunteer. She talks of setting up an area where the evacuees, that where housed at the centre, could come for toiletries and other personal items, as well as sourcing specific items that they may have needed. She mentions a great list of people, organisations and business that generously gave of their time and goods (The Salvation Army provided three hot meals a day along with morning and afternoon tea, several wonderful people set up a crèche, Krispy Crème, PA Hotel, Leonards, Home Ice Cream and many others with cup-cakes, soft serve ice cream and the community of Redlands with many many truck-loads of goods). She talks of providing comfort and a willing ear for many distressed people. The floods occurred in January and peaked on Wednesday 12 January.
