Description
DescriptionFramed illuminated address to the Governor of Queensland, Sir William MacGregor. The address reads: Sir William MacGregor, Knight Grand Cross of St. Michael and St. George, Companion of the Bath, Governor of Queensland. May it please your Excellency. The Council of the City of Ipswich representing the Citizens thereof, desire to accord your Excellency and Lady MacGregor the heartiest of hearty welcomes on this your first official visit to our City, which is now celebrating the Jubilee of its Incorporation, and at the same time to assure your Excellency of our loyalty to the Throne and person of his Majesty the King. We rejoice in the fact of your recovery from your late serious illness, and trust that you will enjoy the blessing of perfect health and happiness during your stay in sunny Queensland. Having in past years been associated with the Government of this State as Administrator of New Guinea, you are familiar with the vast natural resources, as yet in their infancy, which the State possesses; and it is exceedingly gratifying to observe, from the accounts of your travels to various parts thereof, the deep practical interest you take, and the sound advice, born of extensive travel, research, and observation, in this and other lands, given by you, as to the manner in which these resources should be and are being developed. We trust that in this City, where history was first practically made in connection with the State, you will find in its industries, its educational establishments, and the wealth of natural resources by which it is surrounded, something that may possibly interest you, and appeal to the literary and scientific tastes you are known to possess. Once again expressing the pleasure it gives us in welcoming you to our City. We have the honour to be Your Excellency's most obedient servants, Signed on behalf of the Council, Maurice Bowers Mayor. Albion Hayne Town Clerk. Ipswich, 28th April, 1910.
