Description
DescriptionFramed illuminated address to His Excellency Lord Northcote G.C.M.G., G.C.I.E., C.B. The address reads: his Excellency The Right Honourable Lord Northcote G.C.M.G., G.C.I.E., C.B. Governor General of Australia. Your Excellency, The Council of the City of Ipswich, on behalf of the citizens thereof, have great pleasure in according a hearty welcome to your Excellency on your visit to our City, and as it is the first time since the Colonies in 1901 united, and were welded into one nation as the Commonwealth of Australia, that we have been honoured with the presence of its Governor-General, your visit is all the more pleasing, and our welcome all the more cordial. We hasten to assure your Excellency of the loyal devotion of our citizens to the throne and person of this Most Gracious Majesty King Edward the Seventh, and to our own beloved Australia now governed by you as this Majesty's representative. We doubt not that in your journey into the various parts of this State, your Excellency will be seized with, and will experience pleasure in contemplating, its vast Mining, Pastoral, Agricultural, and Industrial resources, as yet only in their infancy, and to what extent if proper facilities were afforded they could be developed to the advantage of the State and the Commonwealth at large. We pray that your journey may be accomplished in safety, and feel sure that on your return to the seat of Government the knowledge and experience gained during your visit will be found to be of much service in advancing the best interests of this State, as well as of the Commonwealth and Empire at large. Trusting that your Excellency and Lady Northcote may be blessed with health and strength during your stay in Australia as his Majesty's Vice-Regent. We have the honor to be, Sir, Your Excellency's most obedient servants, (Signed on behalf of the Council) F Goleby Mayor. Albion Hayne Town Clerk. Ipswich, 24th July, 1906.
