Butter factory, Booval

The Queensland Farmers’ Co-operative Company (later known as Dairy Farmers) opened the butter factory in Jacaranda Street, Booval and processed its first milk in April 1901. 

The facility is often referred to as the Jacaranda Butter Factory.

In 1942 the factory started producing milk. In the 1950s milk from this factory was supplied to 45  Queensland schools in the government's free milk scheme for primary school students. At the same time the factory was also producing huge quantities of cream, flavoured milk, and powdered milks. Their most famous product was Jacaranda Ice Coffee. 

In 1962 the factory produced 9.5 million pounds of butter and three million gallons of milk and provided 10,000 bottles of milk to 82 schools in and around Ipswich.

Owner National Foods  closed the factory in 2010 after  almost 110 years as a major employer in the Ipswich area.  The land was subsequently offered for sale in 2013 and in 2020 it was expected that a medical centre and shops would be constructed on the site.
