Bodega Restaurant

The Bodega Restaurant opened in 1973 at 43 Brisbane Road, Newtown.  Mr. and Mrs. Murdoch had originally purchased a general store in 1966 and established  wholesale wine cellars on the site. The Cellars, on the corner of Brisbane Road and Lusitania Street would later become the Bodega Restaurant. The restaurant had a Spanish theme and served a variety of international cuisines. It was also a wedding and other functions venue.  

There was a large distinctive water feature in front of the restaurant in the shape of a pouring wine bottle and glass. This was an Ipswich landmark during its existence. 

The Murdochs' son Doug  became owner/manager in 1997 after working there since 1978. . 

The restaurant closed c2002.
